The rabbit is a discreet, sociable animal, capable of living in a group or alone depending on its environment. Agile and curious, it explores its territory vigilantly, always on the lookout for dangers.

In the wild, a rabbit spends its days nibbling vegetation, digging burrows and surveying its surroundings. Its role is crucial in the ecosystem: it helps disperse seeds and enriches the soil with its droppings. A true gardener of nature, acting in the shadows but with a huge impact.

Yet this species faces many challenges.

Role in the ecosystem
Rabbits play a key role in the food chain. As a prey for many predators, it supports the ecological balance. By digging, it also helps to aerate the soil, promoting the growth of certain plants. Its presence is essential to maintaining biodiversity.

Why is this species endangered?
The gradual disappearance of natural habitats, caused by urbanization and intensive agriculture, is threatening wild rabbit populations. In addition, diseases such as myxomatosis and VHD (rabbit haemorrhagic virus) are decimating colonies. These dangers, combined with excessive hunting, are jeopardizing the future of this indispensable little mammal.
